Several incidents of vandalism occurred during the demonstration on Thursday, May 1st, in Lyon. Read the reactions of Lyon's elected officials.

On International Workers' Day, 6,500 protesters gathered in the streets of Lyon , according to the Rhône prefecture. According to the unions, nearly 10,000 people were present. And once again, around a hundred masked individuals dressed in black, from the Black Bloc, joined the mobilization.

For a large part of the route, towards Place Jean Macé in the 7th arrondissement , police officers were targeted by projectiles and several acts of vandalism were caused. Bus shelters, real estate agencies and street furniture were targeted.

Very quickly, many local elected officials reacted on social media and condemned these actions. " Attacking equipment or buildings is attacking what belongs to us collectively. It is an unacceptable distortion of the meaning of May 1st ," wrote Bruno Bernard, president of the Lyon Metropolitan Area, on X.

May 1st must remain a day of solidarity and respect for all workers in this country. Not a pretext for violence.
